Miami
I know what you’re thinking, last I checked Florida is in the United States? Yes, that is true but this story is too good not to share. Early on in our dating relationship, I wanted to flex my ability to find cheap flights but morally we didn’t want to stay overnight just the two of us while we were dating. My thought is let’s take a friend trip, best of both worlds, I get to flex my travel expertise and we don’t put ourselves in a compromising position. Well strangely enough, you can’t find many friends on a Wednesday, who can drop everything, and spend the weekend in Florida. I also couldn’t convince Bre it was worth the money to go to Florida when we could be saving for bigger and better things so we didn’t go that weekend.
Then comes the next week, it is Wednesday again, only this time flights are even cheaper. I try once again to devise a plan of how we can go to Florida, and thus a beautiful idea is born, what about a day trip? Now when I tell you the price of the tickets there will be shock if you are from the midwest USA like us and confusion if you are from Europe or much of the rest of the world where this ticket price is average at best.
But I won’t keep you in suspense any longer, for the two of us round trip on a Saturday, from Kansas City to Miami it was a total of $160. That is two people round trip, traveling roughly halfway across the USA on a weekend and booking the tickets 3 days before leaving! If your jaw isn’t to the floor, you either don’t know travel, or live somewhere besides the USA. We left before the sun arrived and made it to Florida at 10 AM. I found a cheap deal on a rental car for $27 for the day. We had 11 hours and 1 goal, to spend as much time jumping in the ocean as possible.
We quickly made our way to the closest beach and jumped in. We spent $10 for day parking, and swam for a few hours. They had a local Farmer’s market where we ate a giant fruit cup with enough pineapple to slice your tongue to shreds for lunch. From there we drove down to Miami Beach and swam for most of the rest of the afternoon. We wandered from there to Bre’s first ShakeShack experience, which did not disappoint.
After filling our sunburnt selves we made our way back to the airport to catch our flight home. After flights for 2, a rental car, gas, parking and two meals we spent a total of approximately $230 for a day on a sunny beach! Were we exhausted, of course, was it worth it, absolutely. For the price of half of one airline ticket normally we got a full date day in Miami.
If you want to know how we found these deals on Cars/Flights I will be sharing that throughout many posts to come but for now I will leave you with one hint, be flexible. Thanks for reading and go take a trip!
